The mark has to be the same every time.

The AppPlayer Device mark says one thing — any bundle opens on this device. For that to be worth anything, the mark has to be the same wherever it is seen. These are the rules that keep it so, and they apply to every certified manufacturer.

Form

It is not redrawn.

The mark is one shape. Proportions, corner radii and inner spacing are fixed. Use the file as published — anything traced or re-set is not the mark. That is also why it is a filled plate with the layout cut out of it: a mark made of strokes comes out differently every time, because moulding and etching each carry their own line weight.

There is no separate drawing per size. The same shape carries the name and the number, or drops them.

Clear space

Keep the surround empty.

Leave half the glyph's height clear on every side. In particular, do not set it against CE, FCC or KC — put next to them it reads as one of them. This is a compatibility mark, not a regulatory approval.

Colour

One colour is the rule.

Black or white. On a dark surface, white. Teal is for screens only — moulding and etching have no colour, and a mark that assumes colour falls apart on the back of a device.

QR

The QR does not replace the mark.

It sits beside it. An unscanned QR says nothing; what a person reads is the glyph and the name. Print the certification number as text too — in a rack or in poor light nothing scans, and someone has to read the number off by eye.

Material

The same thing has to come out in all three.

A 4″ badge has no room for the QR. On devices that size, etch the glyph only and let the QR live on the packaging or the label.
